Gender Transition Lawsuit

In accordance with Article 40 of the Turkish Civil Code; any person who wishes to change their gender may apply in person and request that the court grant permission for a gender reassignment. However, for such permission to be granted; it is mandatory that the applicant has reached the age of 18, is not married, is of a transsexual nature, and certifies the necessity of the gender reassignment for their mental health with an official medical board report to be obtained from a training and research hospital. Upon the verification by an official medical board report that a gender reassignment surgery appropriate for the purpose and medical methods has been performed in accordance with the granted permission, the court shall decide to make the necessary adjustments in the civil registry.
