What should women experiencing violence do? Where should women experiencing violence apply? What are the rights of women experiencing violence?

What should women who experience violence do? Where should women who experience violence apply? What are the rights of women who experience violence?

First and foremost, it is my belief that women who are victims of violence should not feel guilty or alone. I would like them to know that there is no shame in seeking psychological support if they need it, and that sharing the trauma they have experienced will not make them weak. I would like to remind them that no form of violence is normal, and that if they are victims of violence, they must defend their rights and apply to the relevant units to ensure the perpetrators are punished.

Types of violence are categorized under four main headings: physical, sexual, psychological, and economic violence. Women who are victims of violence must prove the type of violence they have been subjected to with medical reports confirming the abuse and other evidence. I would like them to know that they have the right to request a protection and restraining order from the Public Prosecutor's Office or the Family Court, and that they have the right to file a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office.

In our country, within the scope of Law No. 6284 on the Protection of Family and Prevention of Violence Against Women, rules are regulated regarding the measures to be taken for the protection of women, children, family members, and persons who are victims of one-sided persistent stalking who have been subjected to violence or are in danger of being subjected to violence, and for the prevention of violence against these persons. Within the scope of this Law;

*You can request to go to a shelter.

*You can request temporary protection.

*You can request that the perpetrator of the violence be removed from the home and prevent them from approaching you.

*You can prevent the perpetrator of the violence from disturbing you via phone/email/social media/or other means.
